Playing bigger
Why would you want to? Does the idea scare you? And is it even possible for you?
Hello love!
Starting on Friday is the next iteration of The Selfish Bookclub and this time around we are reading, absorbing and embodying PLAYING BIG by Tara Mohr.
Playing Big. It’s quite a statement title and I wonder, what does it make you think of?
When I first hear about the book, probably eight years ago or so, I immediately felt that it might be a bit hustle-y - which is really not me. It felt a bit shoulder pads and sharp edges - do you know what I mean?
I’m glad I pushed past that though (mainly because a very non hustle-y woman recommended it to me) and read it and realised what an absolute gem of a book this is.
In my opinion, this is a must read for women who want to get more out of life and remove some of the barriers that stop them having what they want.
I must have recommended this dozens of times now to clients, friends and colleagues and have bought it a few times as a gift too. If anyone asks me for a book recommendation around mindset and self development, this is the one that almost always comes to mind first.
PLAYING BIG is a book I wish I had written frankly, as it covers really key areas that I often end up coaching women on. It’s a book to open up our hearts and minds to getting more, how we can move away from a lot of the conditioning and programming that women have and have been given by society, our communities, schools and families, and how to start to play bigger. In what ever way that means for us, as playing big will mean something different to every single person reading this - and that’s ok! Because YOU can have what YOU want. Pinky promise.
(Side note: Maybe the idea of playing bigger feels a bit scary, or not in reach. But what if it was? And I can show you how?)
If any of the following feels true for you, this is going to be great for you.
You feel torn between what you want and what others want from you
You know that you’re very susceptible to the opinions of others, especially their criticisms
You have loads of ideas that you hold back from putting into action
You frequently put the needs of others before yourself
You feel overwhelmed by life generally, lacking in clarity
Your need for praise and acceptance from others is holding you back
You know you are hiding your ideas, talents and wishes for fear of exposing them
You feel held back by your inner critical voice which tells you all the things that you aren’t capable of and why it’s not safe to have what you want
You KNOW you are capable of more - but you’re not doing it
(A recent Cumbrian view to give your mind a pause :) )
I’d love you to join me and my community to start playing bigger, understand and remove some barriers, question and reshape some thoughts about what’s possible and just start to show up for yourself as the marvellous, shiny, brilliant human being that you are!
The bookclub for PLAYING BIG includes;
A downloadable worksheet/ book for each chapter to help you explore the ideas as you work your way through
Three online workshops (live and recorded) looking at The Inner Critic, the Inner Mentor and a very useful way to look at and work around Fear called Fear Setting

PS If you want to explore coaching with me, here are some kind words from previous clients and a link to set up a chat with me.
“Thanks to Sarah, I'm on course for my most financially and creatively successful year yet, all while working far less hamster wheel hours. I very much suggest spending some time with her. It's the best money I've ever spent and has already more than paid for itself. Invest in you: you are your biggest and brightest asset."
Lisette Auton, Author & Creative Practitioner
What I achieved during the coaching and mentoring was very much a mindset shift for me – and because of this shift I am in turn more equipped to tackle some of the practical tasks I initially thought I’d bring up in coaching! I feel more balanced, know my working capacity and have built in more time for creative play which I was really struggling with this time last year.
If you are a one person business, or are feeling like you’re a bit stuck with where to go next, or feeling like your own priorities are getting a bit lost amidst the day to day, then chat with Sarah.

I tend to be quite cynical about coaching as it’s an industry where a lot of people without much experience or sense tend to flourish but I really needed a listening ear and a bit of advice in my business.
Sarah is the real deal, with years of experience in marketing and running her own business she knows her stuff on the practical level.
She really understands the often unseen challenges that female entrepreneurs and business women face and her own work/ life balance is frankly an inspiration. You won’t get grind culture here, a steely determination to help you set good targets and meet them yes but in a way that works for you.”
