Those that project their own fears on to us is super real for me right now, and I can imagine many others making a slightly scary and courageous pivot in their lives. I have family members, friends and even my partner mumbling about a ‘proper job’. It almost got me the other day but I was reminded, via Brene Brown of this wonderful quote by Theodore Roosevelt "It's not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred with blood and sweat and dust; who strives valiantly;... who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly" and I think if it often. Yes! I love that quote too. It’s hard not to pay attention especially when it’s people we love but we also only have one life and we owe it to ourselves to use it how we want to.
Good question. I think I probably freeze, it can stop me in my tracks or at least derail me for a period of time and has certainly prevented me from continuing in a number of directions over the years. I genuinely need to get over myself!
This reminds me of when Brene Brown says if you're not in the arena also getting your ass kicked, then she's not interested in your feedback! I think about that a lot and try to remember that not all feedback is valid or equal!
